Yahya bin Sa'id bin al-As narrates: Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) for permission to enter while he (peace and blessings be upon him) was lying on his bed, wearing the wrap of Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her), the wife of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He (peace and blessings be upon him) gave Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) permission in that same state; he attended to his need and then left. Then Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) asked for permission, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) gave him permission too in that same state; he attended to his need and then left. Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Then I asked for permission, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) sat up and gathered his clothes about him. I attended to my need, then I left. Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "O Messenger of Allah, why were you not as careful for Abu Bakr and Umar as you were for Uthman?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Uthman is a modest man, and I feared that if I gave him permission while I was in that state, he would not be able to state his need fully."

Khalid bin Sa'id bin al-As narrates from his father, from his grandfather; he said: The tribe of Bakr bin Wa'il came to Makkah, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Go to them and present me to them." So Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) went to them and asked: "Who are these people?" They said: "Banu Dhuhl bin Tha'labah." He said: "It is not you I want; you are the tail." At this Daghfal stood up before him and said: "And who are you?" He said: "A man of Quraysh." He asked: "From Banu Hashim?" He said: "No." He asked: "Then from Banu Umayyah?" He said: "No." He said: "Then are you also from the tail?" Then Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) came to them a second time and asked: "Who are you people?" They said: "Banu Dhuhl bin Shayban." He said: "It is you I want." So he presented (the message) to them. They said: "Wait until such-and-such, our elder, comes." (Khallad said: I think he named al-Muthanna bin Kharijah.) When their elder came, Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) presented it to them again, and he said: "There is a war between us and the Persians. When we are done with what is between us and them, we will come back and consider what you say." Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "What do you think: if you overcome them, will you follow us in our matter?" He said: "We do not bind ourselves to this condition for you, but when we are done with what is between us and them, we will come back and consider what you say." Then, when they and the Persians met on the Day of Dhu Qar, their elder said: "What is the name of the man who invited you to what he invited you to?" They said: "Muhammad." He said: "Then let that be your battle cry." So they were granted victory over that people. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "They were helped because of me."
