Sulayman bin Zayd bin Thabit (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that Sayyiduna Zayd bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) said: One day we set out early in the morning with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) until we reached the junction of the roads of Madinah. We saw a Bedouin holding the halter of his camel, until he came and stopped before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) while we were around him (peace and blessings be upon him). He said: As-salamu 'alayka ayyuha al-nabiyyu wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh (Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) returned his greeting and said: "How was your morning?" He said: Just then the camel groaned, and a man came who looked like a guard. The guard said: O Messenger of Allah, this Bedouin has stolen this camel. The camel kept groaning and moaning for a while, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) fell silent, listening to its groaning and moaning. When the camel became quiet, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) turned to the guard and said: "Leave him alone, for this camel has testified that you are a liar." So the guard went away, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) turned to the Bedouin and said: "What did you say as you were coming to me?" He said: I said: May my father and mother be sacrificed for you! O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) until no blessing remains; O Allah, send grace upon Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) until no grace remains; O Allah, send peace upon Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) until no peace remains; O Allah, have mercy on Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) until no mercy remains. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Allah, Mighty and Majestic, has revealed this to me, and the camel testified to his innocence with its own tongue, and the angels at that moment filled the horizon from edge to edge."

Sayyiduna Zayd bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I used to write down the revelation in the presence of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). His (peace and blessings be upon him) breathing would become heavy and he would sweat profusely, with drops like pearls; then this state would lift from him. I would write while he (peace and blessings be upon him) dictated to me, and I would not yet have finished when the heaviness would come over him (peace and blessings be upon him) again. When I finished, he (peace and blessings be upon him) would say: "Read." So I would read it back to him (peace and blessings be upon him), and if anything had been left out of it, he (peace and blessings be upon him) would have it corrected.

Sayyiduna Zayd bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I used to write down the revelation for the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). When revelation came down upon him (peace and blessings be upon him), he (peace and blessings be upon him) would be seized by intense distress and would sweat profusely, with drops like pearls; then this state would lift from him. I would go in to him (peace and blessings be upon him) with a piece of a camel saddle or some other fragment to write on, and I would write while he (peace and blessings be upon him) dictated to me. I would not yet have finished when my feet would be close to breaking from the weight of the Qur'an, until I would say: Now I shall never be able to walk on my feet again. When I finished, he (peace and blessings be upon him) would say: "Read it." If anything had been left out of it, he (peace and blessings be upon him) would have it corrected; then I would take it out to the people.
