Ubaydullah bin Abdullah bin Utbah said: I went to Abu Talhah al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) to visit him in his illness, and we found Sahl bin Hunayf (may Allah be pleased with him) with him. Abu Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him) called a man and had a carpet bearing images removed from beneath him. Sahl bin Hunayf (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him: "Why are you removing it?" He said: "Because it has images on it, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said about them what you already know." Sahl said: "Did he (peace and blessings be upon him) not say: 'Except what is a design on cloth'?" He said: "Certainly, but removing it is more pleasing to my heart."

Ubaydullah bin Abdullah bin Utbah narrates: I went with Uthman bin Hunayf (may Allah be pleased with him) to visit Abu Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him) in his illness. We saw that a carpet bearing images was spread beneath him. When we sat down, he said: "Remove this from beneath us." Uthman said to him: "Did you not hear the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbidding images, except what is a design on cloth?" He said: "Certainly, but I dislike it." So it was removed.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him), who was a Companion of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), that he went to visit Sahl (may Allah be pleased with him) while he was ill, and beneath Sahl (may Allah be pleased with him) was a carpet bearing figures. Sahl said: "Remove this carpet from beneath me." Abu Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said concerning images: 'The angels do not enter it; but there is no harm in an image that is a design on cloth.'" Sahl said: "Even if that is so, remove it anyway."
