حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ التُّسْتَرِيُّ، ثنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ بَحْرٍ، ثنا الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ، ثنا وَحْشِيُّ بْنُ حَرْبِ بْنِ وَحْشِيٍّ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ، أَنَّ أَبَا بَكْرٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ، وَجَّهَ خَالِدَ بْنَ الْوَلِيدِ فِي قِتَالِ أَهْلِ الرِّدَّةِ، فَكُلِّمَ فِي ذَلِكَ فَأَبَى أَنْ يَرُدَّهَ وَقَالَ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: " وَذَكَرَ خَالِدَ بْنَ الْوَلِيدِ: نِعْمَ عَبْدُ اللهِ وَأَخُو الْعَشِيرَةِ وَسَيْفٌ مِنْ سُيُوفِ اللهِ "
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Wahshi bin Harb (may Allah be pleased with him) that Sayyiduna Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) sent Sayyiduna Khalid bin al-Walid (may Allah be pleased with him) to fight the people of apostasy. He was spoken to about it (that Khalid should be recalled), but he refused to recall him and said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), mentioning Khalid bin al-Walid, say: "What an excellent servant of Allah, a brother of the tribe, and one of the swords of Allah."
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ حَنْبَلٍ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، ثنا وَهْبُ بْنُ جَرِيرٍ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي يَعْقُوبَ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَمَّا نَعَى أَهْلَ مُؤْتَةَ قَالَ: «ثُمَّ أَخَذَ الرَّايَةَ سَيْفٌ مِنْ سُيُوفِ اللهِ خَالِدُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ فَفَتَحَ اللهُ عَلَيْهِ»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Ja'far (may Allah be pleased with them both) that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) announced the deaths of the people of Mu'tah, he said: "Then one of the swords of Allah, Khalid bin al-Walid, took up the banner, and Allah granted victory at his hands."
حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الدَّبَرِيُّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ قَالَ: نَعَى رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَهْلَ مُؤْتَةَ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ ثُمَّ قَالَ: «فَأَخَذَ اللِّوَاءَ خَالِدُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ وَهُوَ سَيْفٌ مِنْ سُيُوفِ اللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ»
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) announced the deaths of the people of Mu'tah from the pulpit, then said: "Then Khalid bin al-Walid took up the banner, and he is one of the swords of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic."
حَدَّثَنَا الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ الرَّبِيعِ بْنِ ثَعْلَبٍ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ح، وَحَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ، ثنا الرَّبِيعُ بْنُ ثَعْلَبٍ، ثنا أَبُو إِسْمَاعِيلَ الْمُؤَدِّبُ، عَنْ أَبِي خَالِدٍ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي أَوْفَى، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، قَالَ: «لَا تُؤْذُوا خَالِدًا فَإِنَّهُ سَيْفٌ مِنْ سُيُوفِ اللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ، صَبَّهُ اللهُ عَلَى الْكُفَّارِ»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abi Awfa (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not harm Khalid, for he is one of the swords of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, which Allah has unleashed upon the disbelievers."
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ النَّضْرِ الْأَزْدِيُّ، ثنا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو، ثنا زَائِدَةُ، ثنا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ أَبِي خَالِدٍ، عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ أَبِي حَازِمٍ، قَالَ: قَالَ خَالِدُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ بِالْحِيرَةِ: «إِنَّهُ انْدَقَّ بِيَدِهِ يَوْمَ مُؤْتَةَ تِسْعَةُ أَسْيَافٍ» قَالَ: «فَصَبَرَتْ بِيَدَيَّ صَفِيحَةٌ لِي يَمَانِيَةٌ»
Qays bin Abi Hazim (may Allah have mercy on him) narrated that Sayyiduna Khalid bin al-Walid (may Allah be pleased with him) said at al-Hirah: "On the day of Mu'tah, nine swords broke in my hand." He said: "Then a Yemeni blade of mine held firm in my hand."
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدَانُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ، ثنا أَبُو السُّكَيْنِ زَكَرِيَّا بْنُ يَحْيَى، ثنا عَمُّ أَبِي زَحْرُ بْنُ حِصْنٍ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ مَنْهَبٍ، قَالَ: قَالَ خُرَيْمُ بْنُ أَوْسٍ: «لَمْ يَكُنْ أَحَدٌ أَعْدَى لِلْعَرَبِ مِنْ هُرْمُزَ، فَلَمَّا فَرَغْنَا مِنْ مُسَيْلِمَةَ وَأَصْحَابِهِ، أَقْبَلْنَا إِلَى نَاحِيَةِ الْبَصْرَةِ، فَلَقِيَنَا هُرْمُزُ بِكَاظِمَةٍ فِي جَمُعٍ عَظِيمٍ، فَبَرَزَ لَهُ خَالِدٌ وَدَعَا إِلَى الْبَرَازِ، فَبَرَزَ لَهُ هُرْمُزُ، فَقَتَلَهُ خَالِدٌ، وَكَتَبَ بِذَلِكَ إِلَى أَبِي بَكْرٍ الصِّدِّيقِ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ، فَنَفَّلَهُ سَلَبَهُ، قَلَنْسُوَةَ هُرْمُزَ مِائَةَ أَلْفِ دِرْهَمٍ، وَكَانَتِ الْفُرْسُ إِذَا شَرُفَ فِيهَا رَجُلٌ جَعَلُوا قَلَنْسُوَةً بِمِئَةِ أَلْفِ دِرْهَمٍ»
Sayyiduna Khuraym bin Aws (may Allah be pleased with him) said: There was no one more hostile to the Arabs than Hurmuz. When we had finished with Musaylimah and his companions, we set out towards the region of Basrah, and Hurmuz met us at Kazimah with a huge host. Khalid (may Allah be pleased with him) came out against him and called for single combat, so Hurmuz came out against him, and Khalid killed him. He wrote of this to Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him), who awarded him (Hurmuz's) spoils as a bonus: the cap of Hurmuz, worth one hundred thousand dirhams. It was the custom of the Persians that when a man among them attained high rank, they would make him a cap worth one hundred thousand dirhams.
حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ، ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ، ثنا هُشَيْمٌ، ثنا عَبْدُ الْحَمِيدِ بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، أَنَّ خَالِدَ بْنَ الْوَلِيدِ فَقَدَ قَلَنْسُوَةً لَهُ يَوْمَ الْيَرْمُوكِ، فَقَالَ: اطْلُبُوهَا فَلَمْ يَجِدُوها، فَقَالَ: اطْلُبُوهَا، فَوَجَدُوهَا فَإِذَا هِي قَلَنْسُوَةٌ خَلَقَةٌ، فَقَالَ خَالِدٌ: «اعْتَمَرَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَحَلَقَ رَأْسَهُ، فَابْتَدَرَ النَّاسُ جَوَانِبَ شَعْرِهِ، فَسَبَقْتُهُمْ إِلَى نَاصِيَتِهِ فَجَعَلْتُهَا فِي هَذِهِ الْقَلَنْسُوَةِ، فَلَمْ أَشْهَدْ قِتَالًا وَهِيَ مَعِي إِلَّا رُزِقْتُ النَّصْرَ»
It is narrated about Sayyiduna Khalid bin al-Walid (may Allah be pleased with him) that on the day of Yarmuk he lost a cap of his, so he said: Look for it. But it was not found. Then he said: Look for it. So they found it, and it was a worn-out cap. Khalid (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) performed Umrah and shaved his head, and the people rushed for the sides of his hair. I got ahead of them to the hair of his forelock and placed it in this cap. So I have never taken part in any battle while it was with me except that I was granted victory."
حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الدَّبَرِيُّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنْ مُخَارِقِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ طَارِقَ بْنَ شِهَابٍ، يَقُولُ: لَطَمَ ابْنُ عَمِّ خَالِدِ بْنِ الْوَلِيدِ رَجُلًا مِنَّا، فَخَاصَمَهُ عَمَّهُ إِلَى خَالِدِ بْنِ الْوَلِيدِ، فَقَالَ: «يَا مَعْشَرَ قُرَيْشٍ إِنَّ اللهَ تَعَالَى لَمْ يَجْعَلْ لِوُجُوهِكُمْ فَضْلًا عَلَى وُجُوهِنَا إِلَّا مَا فَضَّلَ اللهُ نَبِيَّهُ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ» ، فَقَالَ خَالِدٌ: «اقْتَصَّ» فَقَالَ الرَّجُلُ لِابْنِ أَخِيهِ: الْطِمْ، فَلَمَّا رَفَعَ يَدَهُ، قَالَ: «دَعْهَا لِلَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ»
Tariq bin Shihab (may Allah have mercy on him) said: A cousin of Sayyiduna Khalid bin al-Walid (may Allah be pleased with him) slapped a man from among us, so the uncle of the wronged man brought his complaint against him to Khalid bin al-Walid (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: O people of Quraysh, Allah Almighty has not given your faces any superiority over our faces, except for the superiority that Allah has given His Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Khalid (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Take retaliation." So the man (the uncle) said to his nephew (the one who had been slapped): Slap him. When he raised his hand, it was said: "Leave it for the sake of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic."
حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ، ثنا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ ح، وَحَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ بِشْرٍ الطَّيَالِسِيُّ، ثنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْجَعْدِ، قَالَا: ثنا شَرِيكٌ، عَنْ عَاصِمِ بْنِ أَبِي النَّجُودِ، عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ، قَالَ: كَتَبَ خَالِدُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ إِلَى أَهْلِ فَارِسَ يَدْعُوهُمْ إِلَى الْإِسْلَامِ: «بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ مِنْ خَالِدِ بْنِ الْوَلِيدِ إِلَى رُسْتُمَ، ومِهْرَانَ، وَمَلَإِ فَارِسَ سَلَامٌ عَلَى مَنِ اتَّبَعَ الْهُدَى، أَمَّا بَعْدُ فَإِنَّا نَدْعُوكُمْ إِلَى الْإِسْلَامِ، فَإِنْ أَبَيْتُمْ فَأَعْطُوا الْجِزْيَةَ عَنْ يَدٍ وَأَنْتُمْ صَاغِرُونَ، فَإِنَّ مَعِي قَوْمًا يُحِبُّونَ الْقَتْلَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ كَمَا يُحِبُّ فَارِسُ الْخَمْرَ، وَالسَّلَامُ عَلَى مَنِ اتَّبَعَ الْهُدَى»
Abu Wa'il (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Sayyiduna Khalid bin al-Walid (may Allah be pleased with him) wrote this letter to the people of Persia, inviting them to Islam: "In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. From Khalid bin al-Walid to Rustam, Mihran and the chiefs of Persia. Peace be upon whoever follows the guidance. To proceed: We invite you to Islam. If you refuse, then pay the jizyah by hand while you are humbled, for with me are people who love being killed in the path of Allah just as the Persians love wine. And peace be upon whoever follows the guidance."
حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ، ثنا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ، ثنا بُكَيْرُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ الْبَجَلِيُّ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ قَيْسَ بْنَ أَبِي حَازِمٍ يَقُولُ: «أَمَّ النَّاسَ خَالِدُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ مُتَوَشِّحًا بِثَوْبٍ»
Qays bin Abi Hazim (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Sayyiduna Khalid bin al-Walid (may Allah be pleased with him) led the people in prayer while wrapped in a single garment.
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ، ثنا هَارُونُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ، ثنا وَكِيعٌ، عَنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ، أَنَّ خَالِدَ بْنَ الْوَلِيدِ لَمَّا أَتَى الْحِيرَةَ، قَالَ: «ائْتُونِي بِالسُّمِّ» ، فَأُتِيَ بِهِ فَجَعَلَهُ فِي كَفِّهِ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: «بِسْمِ اللهِ فَاقْتَحَمَهُ فَلَمْ يَضُرَّهُ»
It is narrated from Abu Burdah (may Allah have mercy on him) that when Sayyiduna Khalid bin al-Walid (may Allah be pleased with him) reached al-Hirah, he said: "Bring me poison." So poison was brought, and he placed it in his palm, then said: "Bismillah (In the name of Allah)," and swallowed it, and it did him no harm.
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ، ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو الْأَشْعَثِيُّ، ثنا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ أَبِي خَالِدٍ، عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ أَبِي حَازِمٍ، قَالَ: " رَأَيْتُ خَالِدَ بْنَ الْوَلِيدِ أُتِيَ بِسُمٍّ، فَقَالَ: «مَا هَذَا؟» ، قَالُوا: سُمٌّ، فَقَالَ: «بِسْمِ اللهِ وازْدَرَدَهُ»
Qays bin Abi Hazim (may Allah have mercy on him) said: I saw that poison was brought to Sayyiduna Khalid bin al-Walid (may Allah be pleased with him), and he said: "What is this?" The people said: It is poison. He said: "Bismillah (In the name of Allah)," and swallowed it.
حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عُمَرَ الضَّبِّيُّ، ثنا عَمْرُو بْنُ مَرْزُوقٍ، أَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ حُصَيْنٍ، عَنْ طَارِقِ بْنِ شِهَابٍ، أَنَّ خَالِدَ بْنَ الْوَلِيدِ كَانَ بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ سَعْدِ بْنِ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ كَلَامٌ فَذَكَرَ خَالِدٌ، عَنْ سَعْدٍ: فَقَالَ: «مَهْ فَإِنَّ مَا بَيْنَنَا لَمْ يَبْلُغْ دِينَنَا»
It is narrated from Tariq bin Shihab (may Allah have mercy on him) that there was some dispute between Sayyiduna Khalid bin al-Walid and Sayyiduna Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with them both), and Khalid (may Allah be pleased with him), when Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) was mentioned, said: "Stop! What is between us has not reached our religion."
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ حَنْبَلٍ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، ثنا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ، عَنْ زَكَرِيَّا بْنِ أَبِي زَائِدَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ حَبِيبٍ أَبِي عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ السُّلَمِيِّ، أَنَّ خَالِدَ بْنَ الْوَلِيدِ مَرَّ عَلَى اللَّاتِ فَقَالَ: «كُفْرَانَكَ لَا سُبْحَانَكَ إِنِّي رَأَيْتُ اللهَ قَدْ أَهَانَكَ»
It is narrated from Abdullah bin Habib Abu Abd al-Rahman al-Sulami (may Allah have mercy on him) that Sayyiduna Khalid bin al-Walid (may Allah be pleased with him) passed by (the idol) al-Lat and said: "Ingratitude to you, not glorification! I have seen that Allah has humiliated you."
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَاتِمٍ الْمَرْوَزِيُّ، ثنا سُوَيْدُ بْنُ نَصْرٍ، وَحِبَّانُ بْنُ مُوسَى، قَالَا: ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ، عَنْ حَمَّادِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الْمُخْتَارِ، عَنْ عَاصِمِ ابْنِ بَهْدَلَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ، قَالَ: لَمَّا حَضَرَتْ خَالِدَ بْنَ الْوَلِيدِ الْوَفَاةُ، قَالَ: «لَقَدْ طَلَبْتُ الْقَتْلَ فَلَمْ يُقَدَّرْ لِي إِلَّا أَنْ أَمُوتَ عَلَى فِرَاشِي، وَمَا مِنْ عَمِلٍ أَرْجَى مِنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَأَنَا مُتَتَرِّسٌ بِهَا» ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: «إِذَا أَنَا مُتُّ فَانْظُرُوا سِلَاحِي، وفَرَسِي فَاجْعَلُوهُ عِدَّةً فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ»
It is narrated from Abu Wa'il (may Allah have mercy on him) that when the time of death approached Sayyiduna Khalid bin al-Walid (may Allah be pleased with him), he said: "I sought martyrdom, but it was decreed for me only that I die on my bed. There is no deed more hopeful than 'La ilaha illallah (There is no god but Allah)', while I am shielding myself with it." Then he said: "When I die, look at my weapons and my horse, and make them provision in the path of Allah."
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ، ثنا سَلَمُ بْنُ جُنَادَةَ، ثنا وَكِيعٌ، عَنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، قَالَ: دَخَلُوا عَلَى خَالِدِ بْنِ الْوَلِيدِ يَعُودُونَهُ، فَقَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ: إِنَّهُ لَفِي السَّوْقِ، قَالَ: «نَعَمْ وَاللهِ يَسْتَعِينُ عَلَى ذَلِكَ»
It is narrated from Yunus bin Abi Ishaq (may Allah have mercy on him): Some people came to Sayyiduna Khalid bin al-Walid (may Allah be pleased with him) to visit him in his illness, and one of them said: He is in the throes (of death). Khalid (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Yes, by Allah, and for this I seek help from Allah alone."
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ نُمَيْرٍ، يَقُولُ: «مَاتَ خَالِدُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ بِحِمْصٍ سَنَةَ إِحْدَى وَعِشْرِينَ»
Muhammad bin Abdullah bin Numayr (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Sayyiduna Khalid bin al-Walid (may Allah be pleased with him) died at Hims in the year 21 AH.
