Qays bin Abi Hazim (may Allah have mercy on him) narrated: We went to visit Sayyiduna Khabbab (may Allah be pleased with him) in his illness, and he had had himself cauterised. He said: "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade us to wish for death, and were it not for that, I would have wished for it." At that time he was repairing a wall of his.
And he said: Indeed, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The Muslim is rewarded for all of his spending except what he puts into the earth."

Sayyiduna Khabbab (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) while he (peace and blessings be upon him) was lying with his head resting on his cloak in the shade of the Ka'bah, and we were facing harshness from the polytheists. I said: O Messenger of Allah! Will you not pray to Allah for us? The narrator said: He (peace and blessings be upon him) sat up in anger, his face turned red, and he said: "Among those before you, a man would be asked to say a word and he would refuse to say it, so a saw would be placed on him and he would be split into two pieces, yet that would not turn him away from his religion; and one of them would be combed with iron combs (tearing) the flesh and sinews beneath his bone, yet that would not turn him away from his religion. But you are being hasty. Allah will certainly complete this religion, until a rider will travel from San'a to Hadramawt fearing none but Allah" - and Bayan added in his narration: "or the wolf for his sheep."

Qays bin Abi Hazim (may Allah have mercy on him) narrated from Sayyiduna Khabbab (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) while he (peace and blessings be upon him) was lying with his head resting on his cloak in the shade of the Ka'bah, and we were facing harshness from the polytheists and they had exhausted us greatly. I said: Will you not pray for us? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Among those before you, a man would be seized and combed with iron combs down to what lies beneath his bone, yet that would not turn him away from his religion."
