Sayyiduna Jabir bin Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: A man fell ill, and wailing began over him (that is, people thought him dead and began lamenting). His neighbour came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: He has died. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "How do you know?" He said: O Messenger of Allah! I saw him myself. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "He has not died." The man went back, and (again) wailing broke out over him. His wife said: Go to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and tell him. The man said: O Allah, curse him! Then the man went and saw that he had slaughtered himself with arrowheads that he had with him. He went to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and told him that he had died. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "How do you know?" He said: I saw that he had slaughtered himself with arrowheads that he had with him. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Did you see it yourself?" He said: Yes. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then I will not offer the funeral prayer over him."

Simak bin Harb said: I asked Sayyiduna Jabir bin Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him): Did you use to sit in the company of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)? He said: Yes, often. He (peace and blessings be upon him) would not rise from the place where he prayed until the sun had risen; when the sun rose, he (peace and blessings be upon him) would get up. He (peace and blessings be upon him) used to remain silent for long periods, and the Companions would converse, bringing up matters of the Days of Ignorance (Jahiliyyah) and laughing, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would smile.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to deliver the sermon standing, then sit, then stand and deliver the sermon standing. Whoever tells you that he (peace and blessings be upon him) delivered the sermon sitting is a liar. By Allah! I have prayed with him (peace and blessings be upon him) more than two thousand times.

I asked Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him): Did you hear this yourself? He said: Yes, I heard it myself.

Simak bin Harb said: I heard Sayyiduna Jabir bin Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) saying: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "After me there will be twelve leaders (amirs)." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said something that I could not understand, so I asked all the people, and they told me: He (peace and blessings be upon him) had said: "All of them will be from Quraysh."

Sayyiduna Jabir bin Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) related that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to recite in the Fajr prayer Surah "Qaf, wa al-Qur'an al-Majid" and surahs like it.

Sayyiduna Jabir bin Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) led the Subh (Fajr) prayer and began rebuking something in front of him. When he (peace and blessings be upon him) finished the prayer, we asked him (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "That was a devil; he threw a spark of fire onto my foot in order to divert me from the prayer." And he said: "I rebuked him, and had I seized him, I would have tied him to one of the pillars of the mosque, so that the children of Madinah would gather around him to look at him."

Sayyiduna Jabir bin Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) related: Bowls (of food) used to be sent as gifts to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) while he (peace and blessings be upon him) was staying in the house of Abu Ayyub (may Allah be pleased with him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) would send the leftover of what he ate to him. Once a bowl came to him (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) sent it back just as it was, without having taken anything from it. Abu Ayyub (may Allah be pleased with him) said to his household: Do not eat until I find out why he (peace and blessings be upon him) left it. Then he sought permission, went in and said: Whatever comes to us from you, you (peace and blessings be upon him) have eaten from it, except this bowl; I do not know what the matter with it is? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "There was garlic in it and I disliked its smell. Otherwise there is no harm in it; it is only that I disliked its smell." He said: Then I too will dislike what you dislike. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You know best (for yourself)."
