Sayyiduna Jundub bin Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with him), a man from the tribe of Bajilah, said: I was with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) when a bearer of good news came to him (peace and blessings be upon him) from his detachment and informed him (peace and blessings be upon him) of the victory that Allah had granted his detachment and of the conquest that Allah had given them. He said: O Messenger of Allah, while we were pursuing the enemy, and Allah Almighty had routed them, I caught up with a man with my sword. When he sensed that the sword was about to strike him, he was running and saying: I am a Muslim, I am a Muslim. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "And you killed him?" He said: O Messenger of Allah, he was only seeking refuge. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Why did you not split open his heart and see whether he was truthful or lying?" He said: Even if I had split open his heart, what would I have known? His heart is nothing but a piece of flesh! He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You neither knew what was in his heart, nor did you believe his tongue." He said: O Messenger of Allah, ask forgiveness for me. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I will not ask forgiveness for you." Then that man died and the people buried him, and in the morning he was found lying on the surface of the ground. Then they buried him again, and again in the morning he was found on the surface of the ground; this happened three times. When they saw this, they felt ashamed and disgraced by what had befallen him, so they carried him and threw him into one of the mountain ravines.

Shahr bin Hawshab narrates: Sayyiduna Jundub bin Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated to me that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "After me there will be tribulations like portions of the dark night; in them a man will be a believer in the morning and a disbeliever in the evening, and a disbeliever in the evening and a believer in the morning." A man from among the Muslims said: O Messenger of Allah, what should we do at that time? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Stay in your homes and keep yourselves obscure." A man said: What if someone forces his way into the house of one of us? The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Let him restrain his hand and be the slain servant of Allah, and let him not be the killing servant of Allah. For a man will be within the community of the Muslims, yet he consumes his brother's wealth, sheds his blood, disobeys his Lord and disbelieves in his Creator, and so the Fire becomes obligatory for him."
