حَدَّثَنَا إِدْرِيسُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ الْعَطَّارُ الْبَغْدَادِيُّ، ثنا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيِّبِ، عَنْ جُبَيْرِ بْنِ مُطْعِمٍ، قَالَ: لَمَّا كَتَبَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، سَهْمَ ذِي الْقُرْبَى، وَبَنِي هَاشِمٍ، وَبَنِي الْمُطَّلِبِ، أَتَيْتُهُ أَنَا وَعُثْمَانُ بْنُ عَفَّانَ، فَقُلْنَا: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ هَؤُلَاءِ، بَنُو هَاشِمٍ، لَا يُنْكَرُ فَضْلُهُمْ، لِمَكَانِكَ الَّذِي جَعَلَكَ اللهُ، مِنْهُمْ أَرَأَيْتَ أَعْطَيْتَ إِخْوَانَنَا، مِنْ بَنِي الْمُطَّلِبِ، وَمَنَعْتَنَا، وَإِنَّمَا نَحْنُ وَهُمْ مِنْكَ، بِمَنْزِلَةٍ، قَالَ: «إِنَّهُمْ لَمْ يُفَارِقُونِي فِي جَاهِلِيَّةٍ، وَلَا إِسْلَامٍ، وَإِنَّمَا بَنُو هَاشِمٍ، وَبَنُو الْمُطَّلِبِ شَيْءٌ وَاحِدٌ، وَشَبَّكَ بَيْنَ أَصَابِعِهِ»
Sayyiduna Jubayr bin Mut'im (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) allotted the share of the near relatives to Banu Hashim and Banu al-Muttalib, Sayyiduna Uthman bin Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) and I came to him and said: O Messenger of Allah, these are Banu Hashim; their excellence is not denied, because of the position Allah has given you among them. But do you see that you gave our brothers, Banu al-Muttalib, and deprived us, while we and they stand at the same level in relation to you? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "They did not separate from me, neither in the Jahiliyyah nor in Islam; Banu Hashim and Banu al-Muttalib are one and the same thing," and he (peace and blessings be upon him) interlaced his fingers.
حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ، ثنا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَوْنٍ، أَنَا هُشَيْمٌ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيِّبِ، عَنْ جُبَيْرِ بْنِ مُطْعِمٍ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَحْوَهُ
A similar hadith is also narrated from Sayyiduna Jubayr bin Mut'im (may Allah be pleased with him), from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
حَدَّثَنَا هَارُونُ بْنُ كَامِلٍ الْمِصْرِيُّ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ صَالِحٍ، حَدَّثَنِي اللَّيْثُ، ثنا يُونُسُ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، أَخْبَرَنِي سَعِيدُ بْنُ الْمُسَيِّبِ، أَنَّ جُبَيْرَ بْنَ مُطْعِمٍ، أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّهُ، جَاءَ هُوَ وَعُثْمَانُ بْنُ عَفَّانَ رَضِي اللهُ عَنْهُ، إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، يُكَلِّمَانِهِ، فِيمَا قَسَمَ مِنْ خُمْسِ خَيْبَرَ بَيْنَ بَنِي هَاشِمٍ، وَبَنِي الْمُطَّلِبِ، فَقَالَا: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قَسَمْتَ، لِإِخْوَانِنَا بَنِي الْمُطَّلِبِ بْنِ عَبْدِ مَنَافٍ، وَلَمْ تُعْطِنَا شَيْئًا، وَقَرَابَتُنَا مِثْلُ قَرَابَتِهِمْ، فَقَالَ لَهُمَا رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «إِنَّمَا أَرَى هَاشِمًا، وَالْمُطَّلِبَ شَيْئًا وَاحِدًا» قَالَ جُبَيْرُ بْنُ مُطْعِمٍ: «وَلَمْ يَقْسِمْ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى الله عَلَيْهِ، وَسَلَّمَ لِبَنِي عَبْدِ شَمْسٍ، وَلَا لِبَنِي نَوْفَلٍ، مِنْ ذَلِكَ الْخُمْسِ شَيْئًا، كَمَا قَسَمَ لِبَنِي هَاشِمٍ، وَبَنِي الْمُطَّلِبِ»
Sayyiduna Jubayr bin Mut'im (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that he and Sayyiduna Uthman bin Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) to speak to him (peace and blessings be upon him) about what he (peace and blessings be upon him) had distributed from the khumus (one-fifth) of Khaybar between Banu Hashim and Banu al-Muttalib. They both said: O Messenger of Allah, you gave our brothers, Banu al-Muttalib bin Abd Manaf, and gave us nothing, although our kinship is the same as theirs. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to them both: "I regard Hashim and al-Muttalib as one and the same thing." Sayyiduna Jubayr bin Mut'im (may Allah be pleased with him) said: the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did not give Banu Abd Shams nor Banu Nawfal anything from that khumus, as he (peace and blessings be upon him) had given Banu Hashim and Banu al-Muttalib.
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ حَنْبَلٍ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، ثنا وَهْبُ بْنُ جَرِيرِ بْنِ حَازِمٍ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، عَنِ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ رَاشِدٍ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيِّبِ، عَنْ جُبَيْرِ بْنِ مُطْعِمٍ، أَنَّ عُثْمَانَ بْنَ عَفَّانَ، سَأَلَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، حِينَ أَعْطَى بَنِي هَاشِمٍ، وَبَنِي الْمُطَّلِبِ، مِنْ خُمْسِ خَيْبَرَ، وَلَمْ يُعْطِ بَنِي عَبْدِ شَمْسٍ، وَلَا بَنِي عَبْدِ مَنَافٍ، فَقَالَ: «إِنَّ بَنِي هَاشِمٍ، وَبَنِي الْمُطَّلِبِ شَيْءٌ وَاحِدٌ»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jubayr bin Mut'im (may Allah be pleased with him) that Sayyiduna Uthman bin Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), when he (peace and blessings be upon him) gave Banu Hashim and Banu al-Muttalib from the khumus of Khaybar and did not give Banu Abd Shams and Banu Abd Manaf, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Banu Hashim and Banu al-Muttalib are one and the same thing."
