Nufayl bin Hisham bin Sa'id bin Zayd narrates through his father from his grandfather (Sayyiduna Sa'id bin Zayd, may Allah be pleased with him), who said: Waraqah bin Nawfal and Zayd bin Amr went out in search of the (true) religion until they reached Syria. Waraqah adopted Christianity, whereas Zayd was told: The religion you are seeking is ahead of you (that is, you will find it further on). So he went on until he reached Mosul, and there he met a monk. The monk asked: Where has the traveller come from? Zayd said: From the House of Ibrahim (Makkah). The monk asked: What are you seeking? Zayd said: I am seeking the religion. The monk offered him Christianity, but he refused to accept it and said: I have no need of it. The monk said: The religion you are seeking will soon appear in your own land. So Zayd came back, saying: "Here I am, truly, truly here I am, in worship and in servitude. I seek righteousness, not the world. And can one who travels (in the midday heat) be like one who rests at midday? I seek refuge in that in which Ibrahim (peace be upon him) sought refuge while standing. And O Allah, I am humbled before You and submissive to You; whatever burden You place upon me, I will bear it." Then he would fall down in prostration facing the Ka'bah. The narrator said: Then Zayd bin Amr passed by the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and Zayd bin Harithah while the two of them were eating from their dining cloth, and they invited Zayd bin Amr as well. Zayd said: "O my nephew! I do not eat what has been slaughtered in the name of idols." The narrator said: From that day on, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was never seen eating anything that had been slaughtered in the name of idols, until he (peace and blessings be upon him) was granted prophethood. The narrator said: Then Sayyiduna Sa'id bin Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him) came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! Zayd (my father) was as you saw, or as reached you, so pray for forgiveness for him. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes," and he (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed for forgiveness for him, "for he will be raised on the Day of Resurrection as a nation by himself."
