Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came to us and said: "I have been commanded to recite (the Qur'an) to your brothers among the jinn, so let a man among you stand up with me, and let no man stand up who has even a mustard seed's weight of arrogance in his heart." I stood up with him (peace and blessings be upon him), took a vessel containing nabidh, and set off with him (peace and blessings be upon him). When he (peace and blessings be upon him) reached there, he drew a line around me and said: "Do not step out of it, for if you step out, you will not see me, nor will I see you, until the Day of Resurrection." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) went off and disappeared from me until I could no longer see him (peace and blessings be upon him). When the dawn spread, he (peace and blessings be upon him) came back and said: "I see you standing?" I said: "I did not sit down at all." He said: "What harm would it have done you had you sat down?" I said: "I feared that I might step out of it." He said: "Listen, had you stepped out of it, you would not have seen me, nor would I have seen you, until the Day of Resurrection. Do you have anything for ablution?" I said: "No." He said: "What is this vessel?" I said: "It has nabidh in it." He said: "Wholesome dates and purifying water." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) performed ablution with it and established the prayer. When he completed the prayer, two men of the jinn came to him (peace and blessings be upon him) and asked for provisions. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Have I not already assigned for you and your people that which will set you right?" They said: "Certainly, but we wished that some of us attend the prayer with you." He said: "Where are you from?" They said: "We are from the people of Nasibin." He said: "These two have succeeded, and their people have succeeded." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) made dung and bones food and meat for them, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade cleaning oneself (istinja) with a bone or dung.
