Sayyiduna Abu Rafi' (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) hosted a guest, and nothing was found with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that would meet his need. So he (peace and blessings be upon him) sent me to a man from among the Jews, saying: Tell him: Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) says: Lend me some flour until the new moon of Rajab. He said: No, except against a pledge. I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and told him, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "By Allah, I am trustworthy in the heavens and trustworthy on the earth, and had he lent to me or sold to me, I would have paid him." When I left him (peace and blessings be upon him), this verse was revealed: "And do not extend your eyes towards that by which We have given enjoyment to various groups of them as the splendour of worldly life" [Surah Ta Ha: 131] to the end of the verse, because it was to console him (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding the world.
