It is narrated from Huzayl bin Shurahbil (may Allah have mercy on him) that Sayyiduna Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) was asked about a man who left behind his daughter, his son's daughter and his full sister. He said: Half for his daughter, and what remains is for the full sister. And he said to us: Ibn Mas'ud will also say what I have said. Then they asked Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) and told him what Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) had said. He said: How can I say what he said, when I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Half for the daughter, a sixth for the son's daughter to complete the two-thirds, and what remains is for the full sister."
