Through Azrah, al-Hasan al-Urani and Yahya bin al-Jazzar, Masruq bin al-Ajda' (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that a woman came to Sayyiduna Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: I am a woman with thin hair; is it permissible for me to join (false hair) to my hair? He said: "No." She said: Is this something you heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), or something you find in the Book of Allah? He said: Rather, I heard it from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and I also find it in the Book of Allah. She said: By Allah, I have read (the entire Qur'an) between the two covers of the mushaf, yet I did not find it. He said: Do you not find in it: "And whatever the Messenger gives you, take it, and whatever he forbids you, refrain from it" [Surah al-Hashr: 7]? She said: Indeed I do. She said: By Allah, I see that the one (woman) in your house does this. He said: "Then I would not have kept the counsel of my brother Shu'ayb (peace be upon him)." Then (the narrator says) he said: "I adjure you to go in to her and look at her hair." So she went in and saw a woman with very little hair, and she found nothing in her hair. She came out and said: I did not find anything. At that he said: "Then I would not have kept the counsel of Shu'ayb."
