Abu Ubaydah narrates that Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Allah has cursed the women who have gaps made between their teeth, the women who pluck their hair, and the women who disfigure their appearance (by tattooing), changing the creation of Allah." Then a woman of Banu Asad called Umm al-Mustawrid came to him and said: O Abu Abd al-Rahman! I have learned that you have cursed the women who have gaps made between their teeth, the women who pluck their hair, and the women who tattoo? He said: Shall I not curse the one whom the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) cursed, and who is (also) in the Book of Allah? She said: I have read (the entire Qur'an) between the two covers, yet I did not find this in it. He said: If you have read (the entire Qur'an) between the two covers, then it is certainly in the Book of Allah: "Whatever the Messenger gives you, take it, and whatever he forbids you, refrain from it" [Surah al-Hashr: 7]. She said: By Allah, I think that your own household does this too. He said: "Then go in and look; if they do this, they will not spend a single night with me." So she went in and looked, then came out saying: I did not see anything, I did not see anything.
