Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 917 — when the Prophet ﷺ offered a sacrifice, he

Sayyiduna Abu Rafi' (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) offered a sacrifice, he would bring two fat, horned, black-and-white, perfect rams. Then, when he (peace and blessings be upon him) had addressed the people, given the salam and finished, one of them would be brought to him (peace and blessings be upon him) while he was standing at his place of prayer, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) would slaughter it with his own hand, then say: "O Allah, this is on behalf of my Ummah, whoever has testified to Your Oneness and testified for me that I conveyed the message." Then the other would be brought, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) would slaughter it himself as well, then say: "O Allah, this is on behalf of Muhammad and the family of Muhammad." He (peace and blessings be upon him) and his (peace and blessings be upon him) household would eat from them, and he would feed both of them to the poor. So several years passed in which no man of Banu Hashim offered a sacrifice; Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, had sufficed them this expense through the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).
