Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 916 — When the Prophet ﷺ offered a sacrifice, he

Sayyiduna Abu Rafi' (may Allah be pleased with him) said: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) offered a sacrifice, he would buy two fat, horned, black-and-white rams. Then, when he (peace and blessings be upon him) had addressed the people and led the prayer, one of them would be brought to him (peace and blessings be upon him) while he was standing at his place of prayer, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) would slaughter it with his own hand with a knife, then say: "This is on behalf of my entire Ummah, whoever has testified to Your Oneness and testified that I conveyed the message." Then the other would be brought, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) would slaughter it himself as well, then say: "O Allah, this is on behalf of Muhammad and the family of Muhammad." Then he would give both of them to the poor, and he and his household would eat from them.
