حَدَّثَنَا سَهْلُ بْنُ مُوسَى الرَّامَهُرْمُزِيُّ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي صَفْوَانَ الثَّقَفِيُّ، ثنا أَبُو دَاوُدَ الطَّيَالِسِيُّ، ثنا أَبُو عَامِرٍ الْخَزَّازُ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ، قَالَ: كَانَ لِعُثْمَانَ بْنِ أَبِي الْعَاصِ بَيْتٌ قَدْ أَخْلَاهُ لِلْحَدِيثِ فَكُنَّا نَأْتِيهِ فِيهِ، وَكَانَ يَقُولُ: «سَاعَةٌ لِلدُّنْيَا وَسَاعَةٌ لِلْآخِرَةِ، وَاللهُ أَعْلَمُ أَيُّ السَّاعَتَيْنِ تَغْلِبُ»
Hasan al-Basri (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates: Uthman bin Abi al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) had a house which he had set apart for narrating hadith, and we used to come to him there. He used to say: "An hour for this world and an hour for the Hereafter, and Allah knows best which of the two hours prevails."
