Dirar bin al-Azwar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: Stretch out your hand so that I may pledge allegiance to you on Islam. Then I recited these verses: I have left the gaming arrows and the music of the singing girls — and wine too, for the sake of prostration and humble supplication (I have left them)
and my charging my adorned horse into the thick of battle — and my attacking the Muslims in fighting (I have left too)
O my Lord, let my pledge not end in loss — for I have sold my family and my wealth in exchange for it
Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Dirar, your pledge has not ended in loss."
