Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 7859 — When this verse was revealed: And warn

Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: When this verse was revealed: "And warn your nearest kinsfolk" [Surah al-Shu'ara: 214], the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) gathered Banu Hashim and seated them at the door, and he gathered his wives and his household and seated them inside the house. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) looked in on them and said: "O Banu Hashim! Buy yourselves from the Fire (through good deeds), strive to free your necks, and save yourselves from the punishment of Allah, for I have no power to avail you anything before Allah." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) turned to his household and said: "O Aishah bint Abi Bakr! O Hafsah bint Umar! O Umm Salamah! O Fatimah bint Muhammad! And O Umm al-Zubayr, paternal aunt of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Buy yourselves from the Fire, and strive to free your necks, for I cannot ask anything from Allah for you, nor can I avail you anything." Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) wept and said: O my beloved! Will there be a day when you cannot avail us anything? He said: "Yes, on three occasions: where Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, says: 'And We shall set up the just scales on the Day of Resurrection, so no soul will be wronged in the least; and if there is the weight of a mustard seed, We shall bring it forth, and sufficient are We as reckoners' [Surah al-Anbiya: 47]; at that time I will not be able to avail you anything before Allah. And at the time of the light: Allah will complete the light of whomever He wills, and whomever He wills He will throw headlong into darkness that will cover him; at that time too I have no power to avail you anything before Allah, nor can I be of any use. And on the Sirat (the Bridge): whomever Allah wills He will keep safe and bring across, and whomever He wills He will throw headlong into Hell." Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: O my beloved! We know that the Scale has two pans; when something is placed in them, one becomes heavy and the other light. And we also know what the light and the darkness are. So what is the Sirat? He said: "It is a path between Paradise and Hell over which people will pass. It will be as thin as the edge of a razor, and the angels will be standing in ranks on the right and the left, snatching people with hooks like the thorns of the sa'dan plant, and they will be saying: 'O Lord, grant safety, grant safety!' And people will pass over it like the wind. Whomever Allah wills, He will keep safe, and whomever He wills, He will throw headlong into it."
