حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدَانُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ، ثنا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ النَّخَعِيُّ، ثنا الْعَلَاءُ بْنُ كَثِيرٍ، عَنْ مَكْحُولٍ، عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ قَالَ خَرَجْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى الله عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمْ، فَانْقَطَعَ شِسْعُ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى الله عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمْ، فَقَالَ: «إِنَّا لِلَّهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ» ، فَقَالَ لَهُ رَجُلٌ هَذَا الشِّسْعُ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى الله عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمْ: «إِنَّهَا مُصِيبَةٌ»
Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: We went out with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and the strap of his sandal broke. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un (We belong to Allah and to Him we return)." A man said: This is only a strap. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It too is an affliction."
