It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever deliberately lies about me, let him take his seat between the two eyes of Hell." This weighed heavily on the Companions, and they said: O Messenger of Allah, when we narrate hadith from you, we sometimes add or leave out something. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I do not mean you; I only mean the one who lies about me while making up talk, seeking thereby to bring disgrace upon Islam." They said: O Messenger of Allah, you said 'between the two eyes of Hell'; does Hell have an eye? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes. Have you not heard the saying of Allah: 'When it sees them from a distant place, they will hear its raging and roaring' [Surah al-Furqan: 12]? So how would it see them without two eyes?"
