Amr bin al-Sharid (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from his father, Sayyiduna al-Sharid (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: I was riding behind the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do you have any poetry?" I said: Yes. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Recite something to me." So I recited a verse, then fell silent. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Recite more." I recited another verse, then fell silent. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Recite more." I recited another verse, until I had recited a hundred verses to him (peace and blessings be upon him); then I fell silent, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) also fell silent.
