Sayyiduna Shaybah bin Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I went out with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) on the day of Hunayn. By Allah, it was not Islam or any recognition of it that brought me out; rather, I resented that Hawazin should prevail over Quraysh. So, while standing beside him (peace and blessings be upon him), I said: O Messenger of Allah! I see piebald horses? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Shaybah! None sees them except a disbeliever." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) struck my chest with his hand and said: "O Allah, guide Shaybah." Then he struck it a second time and said: "O Allah, guide Shaybah." Then he struck it a third time and said: "O Allah, guide Shaybah." By Allah, he (peace and blessings be upon him) had not lifted his hand from my chest after the third time before there remained none of Allah's creation more beloved to me than him (peace and blessings be upon him). The narrator said: Then the people clashed, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was on a she-camel or a mule, with Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) holding its bridle, while Abbas bin Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with him) was urging his mount on. Then the Muslims fled, and Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) called out in his loud voice: Where are the first Muhajirun? Where are the people of Surah al-Baqarah? And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), pressing forward, was saying: "I am the Prophet, no lie; I am the son of Abd al-Muttalib." So the Muslims turned back and clashed with swords, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Now the battle has grown fierce." The narrator said: And Allah defeated the polytheists.
