Sayyiduna Samurah bin Jundub (may Allah be pleased with him) says: One day the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) turned towards the people and said: "Is anyone from such-and-such tribe here?" The people remained silent, and it was his (peace and blessings be upon him) habit that whenever he began speaking about something, the people would fall silent. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said again: "Is anyone from such-and-such tribe here?" A man said: "This is so-and-so." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Your companion is being held back short of Paradise because of his debt." Then a man among the people said: "His debt is my responsibility."
