حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ زُهَيْرٍ التُّسْتَرِيُّ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ كَرَامَةَ، ثنا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مُوسَى، ثنا شَيْبَانُ، عَنْ فِرَاسٍ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ، عَنْ سَمُرَةَ بْنِ جُنْدُبٍ، قَالَ: صَلَّى رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَلَمَّا انْصَرَفَ قَالَ: «هَهُنَا مِنْ بَنِي النَّجَّارِ أَحَدٌ؟» فَنَادَى ثَلَاثًا، فَأَجَابَهُ رَجُلٌ فِي الثَّالِثَةِ، فَقَالَ: «هَلْ سَمِعْتَ نِدَائِي؟» قَالَ: نَعَمْ، قَالَ: «فَإِنَّ صَاحِبَكُمْ فُلَانًا احْتَبَسَ عَنِ الْجَنَّةِ مِنْ أَجْلِ الدَّيْنِ الَّذِي كَانَ عَلَيْهِ، فَإِنْ شِئْتُمْ فَافْدُوهُ مِنْ عَذَابِ اللهِ، وَإِنْ شِئْتُمْ فَأَسْلِمُوهُ»
Sayyiduna Samurah bin Jundub (may Allah be pleased with him) says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) led the prayer, and when he had finished he said: "Is anyone from Banu al-Najjar here?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) called out three times, and on the third time a man answered. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Did you hear my call?" He said: "Yes." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Your companion so-and-so has been held back from Paradise because of the debt he owed. If you wish, ransom him from the punishment of Allah, and if you wish, leave him (handed over to it)."
