سمرة بن معير أبو محذورة الجمحي مؤذن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم، وهو سمرة بن معير بن وهب بن دعموص بن سعد بن جمح، وقد اختلف في اسمه قال ابن الكلبي: اسمه أوس بن معير
Samurah bin Miyar Abu Mahdhurah al-Jumahi (may Allah be pleased with him), the muezzin of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him); he is Samurah bin Miyar bin Wahb bin Dumus bin Sad bin Jumah; his name is disputed, and Ibn al-Kalbi said his name was Aws bin Miyar

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الصَّائِغُ الْمَكِّيُّ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُعَاوِيَةَ، ثنا الْهُذَيْلُ بْنُ بِلَالٍ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ أَبِي مَحْذُورَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ: «جَعَلَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِبَنِي عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ السِّقَايَةَ، وَلِبَنِي عَبْدِ الدَّارِ الْحِجَابَةَ، وَجَعَلَ الْأَذَانَ لَنَا وَلِمَوَالِينَا»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Mahdhurah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) assigned to Banu Abd al-Muttalib the service of giving water to the pilgrims (siqayah), and assigned to Banu Abd al-Dar the keeping of the keys of the Ka'bah (hijabah), and assigned the adhan to us and to our mawali (freed clients).
