Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 5889 — he said: When the people established

حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ أَيُّوبَ الْعَلَّافُ، ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي مَرْيَمَ، وَيَحْيَى بْنُ بُكَيْرٍ، قَالَا: ثنا ابْنُ أَبِي حَازِمٍ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو حَازِمٍ، عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ قَالَ: «مَا أَصَابَ النَّاسُ الْعَدَدَ، مَا عَدُّوا مِنْ مَبْعَثِ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، وَلَا مِنْ وَفَاتِهِ، وَلَا عَدُّوا إِلَّا مِنْ مَقْدِمِهِ الْمَدِينَةَ»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: "When the people established the reckoning of dates, they did not count from the commissioning of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), nor from his death; rather, they counted only from his (peace and blessings be upon him) arrival in Madinah."
