Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 5883 — We used to rejoice on Friday. I asked

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الصَّائِغُ، ثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الشَّافِعِيُّ، ثنا ابْنُ أَبِي حَازِمٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ قَالَ: «كُنَّا نَفْرَحُ فِي يَوْمِ الْجُمُعَةِ» ، قُلْتُ: وَلِمَ؟ قَالَ: «كَانَتْ لَنَا عَجُوزٌ تُرْسِلُ، فَتَأْخُذُ مِنْ أُصُولِ السِّلْقِ، فَتَطْرَحُهُ فِي قِدْرٍ فَتُكَرْكِرُ حَبَّاتٍ مِنْ شَعِيرٍ، فَتَجْعَلُهَا فِيهِ، فَكُنَّا إِذَا صَلَّيْنَا الْجُمُعَةَ انْصَرَفْنَا إِلَيْهَا، وَكُنَّا نَفْرَحُ بِيَوْمِ الْجُمُعَةِ مِنْ أَجْلِ ذَلِكَ، وَمَا كُنَّا نَقِيلُ، إِلَّا بَعْدَ الْجُمُعَةِ»
Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "We used to rejoice on Friday." I asked: Why? He said: "There was an old woman among us who would send (someone) to fetch the roots of chard, put them in a pot, then grind some grains of barley and add them to it. So when we had prayed the Friday prayer we would go to her, and it was because of this that we rejoiced on Friday; and we would take our midday nap only after the Friday prayer."
