Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "We used to rejoice on account of Friday." I asked him: What was the reason for that? He said: "A woman of our neighbourhood would take chard and put it with barley in vinegar. Then, when Friday came, she would take it out with its roots, put some barley over it, then place it in her pot and cook it in her oven and serve it to us. We used to call it 'al-silq al-gharraq' (the soaked chard), and we would lick it up, and we used to love Friday because of that pot. In the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), the midday meal and the siesta (qaylulah) were only after the Friday prayer."
