Ibn Jabir (may Allah have mercy on him) said: I heard Abu al-Ash'ath al-San'ani (may Allah have mercy on him) say: I heard Sayyiduna Aws bin Aws al-Thaqafi (may Allah be pleased with him) narrate from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever on Friday has (his wife) take a ritual bath (ghusl) and takes a bath himself, then goes early and goes at the start of its time, and walks and does not ride, and does not engage in idle talk, the reward of a year of (good) deeds will be recorded for him." Ibn Jabir said: Then I narrated this hadith to Yahya bin al-Harith al-Dhimari, and he said: I too heard Abu al-Ash'ath narrate it from Sayyiduna Aws bin Aws, from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and then he said (in it): "For every step he will have the reward of a year of fasting and standing in prayer." Ibn Jabir said: Yahya remembered (these words) and I forgot. Al-Walid said: I mentioned that to Abu Amr al-Awza'i (may Allah have mercy on him), and he said: The hadith is established in this way: that for every step he will have (the reward of) a year of deeds.
