حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ عُثْمَانَ، ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي مَرْيَمَ، ثنا أَبُو غَسَّانَ، عَنْ أَبِي حَازِمٍ، عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ، أَنَّ امْرَأَةً عَرَضَتْ نَفْسَهَا عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْقَوْمِ: زَوِّجْنِيهَا، فَقَالَ: «مَا عِنْدَكَ؟» ، قَالَ: مَا عِنْدِي شَيْءٌ، قَالَ: «اذْهَبْ فَالْتَمِسْ وَلَوْ خَاتَمًا مِنْ حَدِيدٍ» ، فَذَهَبَ، ثُمَّ رَجَعَ، فَقَالَ: لَا وَاللهِ مَا وَجَدْتُ شَيْئًا، وَلَا خَاتَمَ حَدِيدٍ، وَلَكِنْ هَذَا إِزَارِي، لَهَا نِصْفُهُ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «مَا تَصْنَعُ بإِزَارِكَ إِنْ لَبِسْتَهُ لَمْ يَكُنْ عَلَيْهَا مِنْهُ شَيْءٌ، وَإِنْ لَبِسَتْهُ لَمْ يَكُنْ عَلَيْكَ مِنْهُ شَيْءٌ» ، فَجَلَسَ الرَّجُلُ، حَتَّى طَالَ مَجْلِسُهُ، فَرَآهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَدَعَاهُ أَوْ جِيءَ بِهِ، فَقَالَ لَهُ: «مَاذَا مَعَكَ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ؟» ، قَالَ: مَعِي سُورَةُ كَذَا وَكَذَا، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «قَدْ أَنْكَحْتُكَهَا بِمَا مَعَكَ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) that a woman offered herself to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and a man from among the people said: Marry her to me. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What do you have?" He said: I have nothing. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Go and look for something, even if it is only an iron ring." He went, then came back and said: No, by Allah, I found nothing, not even an iron ring, but this is my waist-wrapper; half of it is hers. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What use will your waist-wrapper be to you? If you wear it, nothing of it will be on her, and if she wears it, nothing of it will be on you." The man sat until his sitting became long. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saw him and called him, or he was brought, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "What do you know of the Qur'an?" He said: I know such-and-such a surah. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I have married her to you for what you know of the Qur'an."
