حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ أَبُو عَامِرٍ النَّحْوِيُّ، ثنا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الدِّمَشْقِيُّ، ثنا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ، عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ قَالَ: قَالَ عُوَيْمِرٌ لِعَاصِمٍ: رَجُلٌ وَجَدَ مَعَ امْرَأَتِهِ رَجُلًا، أَيَقْتُلُهُ فَتَقْتُلُونَهُ، أَمْ كَيْفَ يَصْنَعُ؟ سَلْ لِي رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عنْ ذَلِكَ، فَسَأَلَ عَاصِمٌ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ ذَلِكَ، فَكَرِهَ الْمَسَائِلَ وَعَابَهَا، فَعَظُمَ ذَلِكَ عَلَى عَاصِمٍ وَكَبُرَ فِي نَفْسِهِ، فَأَتَاهُ عُوَيْمِرٌ، فَقَالَ: سَأَلْتَ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الَّذِي أَمَرْتُكَ بِهِ؟ فَقَالَ: لَمْ تَجِئْنِي بِخَيْرٍ، سَأَلْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَكَرِهَ الْمَسَائِلَ وَعَابَهَا، حَتَّى وَدِدْتُ أَنِّي خَرَجْتُ مِنْ مَالِي وَلَمْ أَسْأَلْهُ شَأْنَكَ بَامْرَأَتِكَ، فَأَتَى عُوَيْمِرٌ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، رَجُلٌ وَجَدَ مَعَ امْرَأَتِهِ رَجُلًا، أَيَقْتُلُهُ فَتَقْتُلُونَهُ، أَمْ كَيْفَ يَصْنَعُ؟ فَقَالَ: «قَدْ أَنْزَلَ اللهُ فِيكَ وَفِي صَاحِبَتِكَ فَاعْجَلْ بِهَا» ، فَقَدَّمَهَا رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ بَعْدَ الْعَصْرِ، وَأَنَا مَعَ النَّاسِ أَنْظُرُ، فَتَلَاعَنَا، فَلَمَّا فَرَغَا، وَقَفَ عُوَيْمِرٌ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، ظَلَمْتُهَا إِنْ أَمْسَكْتُهَا، فَهِيَ طَالِقٌ الْبَتَّةَ
Uwaymir said to Asim: "A man finds a (strange) man with his wife: should he kill him, and then you kill him in retaliation, or what should he do? Ask the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) about this for me." So Asim asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) about it, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) disliked such questions and found fault with them, and this weighed heavily and grievously on Asim. Uwaymir came to him and said: "Did you ask the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) what I told you to ask?" Asim said: "You did not bring me anything good. I asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) disliked it and found fault with it, so much so that I wished I had given away all my wealth rather than ask about the matter of you and your wife." So Uwaymir came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) himself and said: "O Messenger of Allah! A man finds a (strange) man with his wife: should he kill him, and then you kill him in retaliation, or what should he do?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Allah has revealed a verse concerning you and your companion; bring her quickly." So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) brought her forward in the mosque after the Asr prayer, and I (Sahl, may Allah be pleased with him) was watching along with the people, and the two of them performed li'an (mutual imprecation). When the two of them had finished, Uwaymir stood before the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah! If I keep her, I will have wronged her; so she is divorced irrevocably."
