Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 5608 — a man of the Ansar called Sahl bin Abi

It is narrated from Bushayr bin Yasar that a man of the Ansar called Sahl bin Abi Hathmah told him that some people of his tribe went to Khaybar and separated there, and they found one of their number slain. They said to those near whom he had been found: Did you kill our companion? They said: We neither killed him nor do we know (who did). So they went to the Prophet of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Prophet of Allah, we went to Khaybar and found one of our number slain. The youngest of the group began to speak, so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Let the elder speak, let the elder speak." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said to them: "Bring witnesses against the killer." They said: We have no witnesses. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then shall they (the Jews) swear oaths before you?" They said: We do not accept the oaths of the Jews. The Prophet of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) disliked that his (the slain man's) blood should go to waste, so he (peace and blessings be upon him) paid his blood money with one hundred camels from the camels of charity (sadaqah).
