حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الدَّبَرِيُّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، وَيَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ، بَيْنَمَا أُسَيْدُ بْنُ حُضَيْرٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ، يُصَلِّي بِاللَّيْلِ، قَالَ: إِذْ غَشِيَتْنِي مِثْلُ السَّحَابَةِ فِيهَا مِثْلُ الْمَصَابِيحِ، وَالْمَرْأَةُ نَائِمَةٌ إِلَى جَنْبِي وَهِي حَامِلٌ، وَالْفَرَسُ مَرْبُوطٌ فِي الدَّارِ، فَخَشِيتُ أَنْ يَنْفِرَ الْفَرَسُ، فَتَفْزَعَ الْمَرْأَةُ، فَتُلْقِيَ وَلَدَهَا، فَانْصَرَفْتُ مِنْ صَلَاتِي، فَذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حِينَ أَصْبَحْتُ، فَقَالَ: «اقْرَأْهُ يَا أُسَيْدُ فَإِنَّ ذَلِكَ مَلَكٌ اسْتَمَعَ الْقُرْآنَ»
Abu Salamah (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that one night Sayyiduna Usayd bin Hudayr (may Allah be pleased with him) was praying. He said: Suddenly something like a cloud covered me, in which there was light like lamps, and (my pregnant) wife was sleeping by my side, and the horse was tied in the house. I feared that the horse might bolt, and my wife might be frightened and miscarry, so I left off my prayer. In the morning I mentioned this to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Usayd! You should have continued reciting; that was an angel who came to listen to the Qur'an."
