حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ بْنِ سَوْرَةَ الْبَغْدَادِيُّ، وَأَبُو خَلِيفَةَ، قَالَا: ثنا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ الطَّيَالِسِيُّ، ثنا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ كَثِيرٍ، ثنا الزُّهْرِيُّ، عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ بْنِ سَهْلِ بْنِ حُنَيْفٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، «أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَهَى عَنْ لَوْنَيْنِ مِنَ التَّمْرِ، الْجُعْرُورِ، وَلَوْنِ الْحُبَيْقِ» ، قَالَ: وَكَانَ النَّاسُ يَتَيَمَّمُونَ شِرَارَ ثِمَارِهِمْ، فَيُخْرِجُونَهَا فِي صَدَقَاتِهِمْ، فَنَزَلَتْ: {وَلَا تَيَمَّمُوا الْخَبِيثَ مِنْهُ تُنْفِقُونَ} [البقرة: ٢٦٧]
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sahl bin Hunayf (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade two kinds of dates: Ju'rur and Lawn al-Hubayq (inferior kinds of dates). The narrator said: The people used to deliberately pick out the worst of their fruits and give them out in their charity, so this verse was revealed: "And do not aim at the bad of it to spend (in charity)" [Surah al-Baqarah: 267].
