Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 5290 — Sayyiduna al-Sa'ib relates: Sayyiduna
حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيلٍ الْعَنَزِيُّ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ، قَالَا: ثنا أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ، ثنا مُصْعَبُ بْنُ الْمِقْدَامِ، حَدَّثَنِي إِسْرَائِيلُ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ مُهَاجِرٍ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ، عَنِ السَّائِبِ، قَالَ: جَاءَ عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عَفَّانَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ وَزُهَيْرُ بْنُ أُمَيَّةَ، فَاسْتَأْذَنَا عَلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَأَثْنَيَا عَلَيَّ عِنْدَهُ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «أَنَا أَعْلَمُ بِهِ مِنْكُمَا، كَانَ شَرِيكِي فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ»
Sayyiduna al-Sa'ib (may Allah be pleased with him) relates: Sayyiduna Uthman bin Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) and Zuhayr bin Umayyah came and asked permission of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to enter, then the two of them praised me before him (peace and blessings be upon him). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I know him better than you two; he was my partner in the time of Jahiliyyah."
