حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ صَالِحِ بْنِ الْوَلِيدِ النَّرْسِيُّ، ثنا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ أَبِي كَبْشَةَ، ثنا أَبُو دَاوُدَ، ثنا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللهِ الشَّامِيِّ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ مُعَاوِيَةَ، يَخْطُبُ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ: يَا أَهْلَ الشَّامِ حَدَّثَنِي الْأَنْصَارِيُّ - قَالَ شُعْبَةُ: يَعْنِي زَيْدَ بْنَ أَرْقَمَ - إِنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «لَا يَزَالُ نَاسٌ مِنْ أُمَّتِي يُقَاتِلُونَ عَلَى الْحَقِّ حَتَّى يَأْتِيَهُمُ الْأَمْرُ» وَإِنِّي لَأَظُنُّكُمْ هُمْ يَا أَهْلَ الشَّامِ "
Abu Abdullah al-Shami (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates: I heard Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) delivering a sermon and saying: "O people of al-Sham! The Ansari Companion narrated to me (Shu'bah said: he meant Sayyiduna Zayd bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him)) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'A group from my Ummah will continue to fight upon the truth until the command (of Allah, the Hour) comes to them.' And I think, O people of al-Sham, that you are that group."
