حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو يَزِيدَ الْقَرَاطِيسِيُّ، ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي مَرْيَمَ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ، أَخْبَرَنِي أَبِي، أَنَا الْمُرَقَّعُ بْنُ صَيْفِيٍّ، قَالَ: ابْنُ أَبِي مَرْيَمَ أَظُنُّهُ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، أَنَّ جَدَّهُ رَبَاحَ بْنَ رَبِيعٍ، أَخَا حَنْظَلَةَ الْكَاتِبَ، أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّهُ خَرَجَ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي غَزْوَةٍ غَزَاهَا، كَانَ عَلَى مُقَدِّمَتِهِ فِيهَا خَالِدُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ، فَمَرَّ رَبَاحُ وَأَصْحَابُ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى امْرَأَةٍ مَقْتُولَةٍ مِمَّا أَصَابَتِ الْمُقَدِّمَةُ، فَوَقَفُوا عَلَيْهَا يَنْظُرُونَ إِلَيْهَا، وَيَعْجَبُونَ مِنْ خَلْقِهَا حَتَّى لَحِقَهُمْ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى نَاقَةٍ لَهُ، فَتَفَرَّجُوا عَنِ الْمَرْأَةِ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «مَا كَانَتْ هَذِهِ تُقَاتِلُ» ، ثُمَّ نَظَرَ فِي وُجُوهِ الْقَوْمِ فَقَالَ لِأَحَدِهِمْ: «الْحَقْ خَالِدَ بْنَ الْوَلِيدِ فَلَا يَقْتُلَنَّ ذُرِّيَّةً وَلَا عَسِيفًا»
Sayyiduna Rabah bin Rabi' (may Allah be pleased with him) (the brother of Hanzalah the scribe) narrated that he went out with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) on a military expedition in which Khalid bin al-Walid was in command of the vanguard (the front detachment) of the army. Rabah and the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by a slain woman whom the vanguard had killed. They stood by her, looking at her and wondering at her physique, until the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) reached them on his she-camel, and they moved away from the woman. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "This woman was not one who fought." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) looked at the faces of the people and said to one of them: "Go to Khalid bin al-Walid and tell him that he must never kill any child or hired labourer."
