Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 4577 — from his father, who said: I saw

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ رَاهَوَيْهِ، ثنا أَبِي، ح وَحَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ التُّسْتَرِيُّ، ثنا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ قَالَا: ثنا جَرِيرٌ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ السَّائِبِ، عَنْ ابْنِ رَبِيعَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ: «رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَاقِفًا مَعَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ بِعَرَفَاتٍ، ثُمَّ رَأَيْتُهُ بَعْدَ مَا بُعِثَ وَاقِفًا فِي مَوْقِفِهِ ذَلِكَ فَعَلِمْتُ أَنَّ اللهَ وَفَقَّهُ لِذَلِكَ»
Ibn Rabi'ah (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from his father, who said: I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), before he was sent (as a prophet), standing with the polytheists at Arafat; then after he was sent I saw him (peace and blessings be upon him) standing at that same place, and I knew that Allah had guided him (peace and blessings be upon him) to that very place.
