Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 4574 — I heard Sayyiduna Rabi'ah bin Ibad

Husayn bin Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah have mercy on him) said: I heard Sayyiduna Rabi'ah bin Ibad al-Dili (may Allah be pleased with him) say: I was a young man with my father, watching the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) going to the tribes, and behind him (peace and blessings be upon him) was a cross-eyed, handsome man with long hair. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would stop at a tribe and say: "O children of so-and-so, I am the Messenger of Allah to you. I command you to worship Allah and not to associate anything with Him, and to believe me and protect me until I convey from Allah the message with which I have been sent." When he (peace and blessings be upon him) finished his words, the other man would say from behind: O children of so-and-so, this man wants you to abandon al-Lat and al-Uzza and your allies from the clan of Banu Malik bin Uqaysh, for the innovation and misguidance he has brought. So do not listen to him and do not follow him. I asked my father: Who is this? He said: This is his uncle, Abu Lahab.
