Hanash al-San'ani (may Allah have mercy on him) said: We went on a campaign towards the Maghrib, and our commander was Sayyiduna Ruwayfi' bin Thabit al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him). We conquered a town called Jarbah, and Sayyiduna Ruwayfi' (may Allah be pleased with him) stood among us to deliver a sermon and said: I will tell you only what I heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He (peace and blessings be upon him) stood among us on the day of Hunayn, when we conquered it, and said: "Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day must not water another man's crop with his own water; whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day must not have intercourse with a previously married woman from among the captives until he has established that she is not pregnant (istibra'); whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day must not sell any of the spoils of war before they are distributed; whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day must not use a mount from the fay' of the Muslims in such a way that, when he has made it emaciated, he returns it (to the fay'); and whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day must not wear a garment from the fay' of the Muslims in such a way that, when he has worn it out, he returns it (to the fay')."
