Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 4153 — I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say

Sayyiduna Khuraym bin Aws (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "This is al-Hirah, the white (city); it has been shown to me. And this is al-Shayma' bint Buqaylah al-Azdiyyah, riding a grey mule, wrapped in a black head-covering." I said: "O Messenger of Allah! If we enter al-Hirah and find her with this description, will she be mine?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "She is yours." Then the Arabs apostatised, but no one from the tribe of Tayyi' apostatised, and we kept fighting Banu Asad, among whom was Tulayhah bin Khuwaylid al-Faq'asi. Khalid bin al-Walid (may Allah be pleased with him) composed verses in our praise, among which were these:
May Allah reward Tayyi' on our behalf, in their lands, on the battlefield of heroes, with the best reward,
They are the bearers of the banners of generosity and liberality, when the east wind shakes every tent,
They struck the tribe of Qays for the sake of the religion, after they (the people of Qays) had answered the call of the caller to darkness and misguidance. Then Khalid (may Allah be pleased with him) set out against Musaylimah, and we went with him. When we had finished with Musaylimah and his companions, we headed towards the region of Basrah, and there we faced Hurmuz at Kazimah with a huge army; and there was no greater enemy of the Arabs than Hurmuz. Abu al-Sukayn says: He became proverbial; the Arabs say: 'You are more of a disbeliever than Hurmuz.' Khalid bin al-Walid went out against him and called for single combat, and Hurmuz came out; Khalid (may Allah be pleased with him) killed him and wrote about it to Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), who gave him his spoils (as a bonus). The cap of Hurmuz fetched one hundred thousand dirhams; it was the custom of the Persians that when a man among them attained high rank, they would value his cap at one hundred thousand dirhams. Then we travelled by the road of al-Taff until we entered al-Hirah, and the first to come to meet us there was al-Shayma' bint Buqaylah al-Azdiyyah, riding a grey mule of hers, wearing a black head-covering, exactly as the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had said. I took hold of her and said: "This one the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) has given to me." Khalid asked me for witnesses to this, and I brought him the witnesses, so he handed her over to me. Her brother Abd al-Masih came to us and said to me: "Sell her to me." I said: "By Allah! I will not let her go for less than one thousand (dirhams)." He gave me one thousand dirhams. It was said to me: "Had you said one hundred thousand, he would have given it to you." I said: "I did not think there could be any amount of wealth greater than one thousand." And it reached me in another narration that the two witnesses (to this event) were Muhammad bin Maslamah and Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both).
