حَدَّثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ مُوسَى، ثنا الْحُمَيْدِيُّ، ح وَحَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ بْنُ غَنَّامٍ، ثنا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، قَالَا: ثنا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ، عَنْ أَبِي نَجِيحٍ، عَنْ خَالِدِ بْنِ حَكِيمِ بْنِ حِزَامٍ، أَنَّ أَبَا عُبَيْدَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ تَنَاوَلَ رَجُلًا مِنْ أَهْلِ الْأَرْضِ، فَنَهَاهُ عَنْهُ خَالِدُ بْنُ حَكِيمٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ، فَقَالُوا لِخَالِدٍ: أَغْضَبْتَ أَبَا عُبَيْدَةَ، فَقَالَ: إِنِّي لَمْ أُغْضِبْهُ، وَلَكِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: «إِنَّ أَشَدَّ النَّاسِ عَذَابًا لِلنَّاسِ فِي الدُّنْيَا أَشَدُّهُمْ عَذَابًا عِنْدَ اللهِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Khalid bin Hakim bin Hizam (may Allah be pleased with him) that Sayyiduna Abu Ubaydah (may Allah be pleased with him) dealt harshly with a man from the people of the land, and Sayyiduna Khalid bin Hakim (may Allah be pleased with him) forbade him from doing so. The people said to Khalid: "You have angered Abu Ubaydah." He said: "I have not angered him; rather, I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: 'The one who punishes people most severely in this world will be the one most severely punished in the sight of Allah on the Day of Resurrection.'"
