حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَضْرَمِيُّ، ثنا أَبُو كُرَيْبٍ، ثنا سُوَيْدُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو الْكَلْبِيُّ، عَنْ حَمَّادِ بْنِ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ، عَنْ أَبِي نَجِيحٍ، أَنَّ خَالِدَ بْنَ حَكِيمٍ مَرَّ بِأَبِي عُبَيْدَةَ بْنِ الْجَرَّاحِ وَهُوَ يُعَذِّبُ النَّاسَ فِي الْجِزْيَةِ، فَقَالَ لَهُ: أَمَا سَمِعْتَ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: «إِنَّ أَشَدَّ النَّاسِ عَذَابًا يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ أَشَدُّهُمْ عَذَابًا فِي الدُّنْيَا» ، فَقَالَ: اذْهَبْ فَخَلِّ سَبِيلَهُمْ
Abu Najih narrates: Khalid bin Hakim (may Allah be pleased with him) passed by Abu Ubaydah bin al-Jarrah (may Allah be pleased with him) while he was punishing people over the jizyah. He said to him: "Have you not heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: 'The one who punishes people most severely in this world will be the one most severely punished on the Day of Resurrection'?" At this Abu Ubaydah said: "Go, and let them go."
