حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ النَّضْرِ الْأَزْدِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو، ثنا زَائِدَةُ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ، عَنْ هِلَالِ بْنِ يَسَافٍ، عَنْ رَبِيعِ بْنِ خُثَيْمٍ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مَيْمُونٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى، عَنِ امْرَأَةٍ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ، قَالَتْ: قَالَ أَبُو أَيُّوبَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «أَيَعْجِزُ أَحَدُكُمْ أَنْ يَقْرَأَ فِي لَيْلَةٍ بِثُلُثِ الْقُرْآنِ؟» فَأَشْفَقْنَا أَنْ يَأْمُرَنَا بِأَمْرٍ نَعْجِزُ عَنْهُ فَسَكَتْنَا، فَقَالَ: «أَيَعْجِزُ أَحَدُكُمْ أَنْ يَقْرَأَ فِي لَيْلَةٍ بِثُلُثِ الْقُرْآنِ؟» فَأَشْفَقْنَا أَنْ يَأْمُرَنَا بِأَمْرٍ نَعْجِزُ عَنْهُ فَسَكَتْنَا، فَقَالَ: " أَيَعْجِزُ أَحَدُكُمْ أَنْ يَقْرَأَ فِي لَيْلَةٍ بِثُلُثِ الْقُرْآنِ؟ فَإِنَّهُ مَنْ قَرَأَ فِي لَيْلَةٍ: اللهُ الْوَاحِدُ الصَّمَدُ فَقَدْ قَرَأَ لَيْلَتَهُ بِثُلُثِ الْقُرْآنِ "
A woman of the Ansar narrates about Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub (may Allah be pleased with him) that Abu Ayyub said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Is any one of you unable to recite one third of the Qur'an in a night?" We feared that he might command us with something we would be unable to do, so we remained silent. He said again: "Is any one of you unable to recite one third of the Qur'an in a night?" Again we feared that he might command us with something we would be unable to do, so again we remained silent. Then he said: "Is any one of you unable to recite one third of the Qur'an in a night? Whoever recites 'Allah, the One, the Self-Sufficient' (Surah al-Ikhlas) in a night has recited one third of the Qur'an that night."
