Sayyiduna Khalid bin al-Walid (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Umm Hufayd sent the meat of a lizard (dabb) as a gift to Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came in, and it was presented to him, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) would not eat any food until he knew what it was. A woman said: Tell the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) what this is. So the people told him that it was the meat of a lizard which Umm Hufayd had sent as a gift to Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her). The narrator said: He (peace and blessings be upon him) intended to eat from it, then held back. (I) said: O Messenger of Allah, is it unlawful? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No, but I find that I have an aversion to it, and it is not the food of my people." Khalid (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Then I ate it while he (peace and blessings be upon him) was sitting, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) did not reproach me for that.
