حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي مَرْيَمَ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ الْفِرْيَابِيُّ، ح وَحَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ، ثنا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ، قَالَا: ثنا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ سَعِيدٍ الْجُرَيْرِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي عُثْمَانَ النَّهْدِيِّ، عَنْ حَنْظَلَةَ الْكَاتِبِ الْأُسَيِّدِيِّ قَالَ: كُنَّا عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَذَكَرْنَا الْجَنَّةَ وَالنَّارَ حَتَّى كَأَنَّا رَأْيُ عَيْنٍ فَقُمْتُ إِلَى أَهْلِي وَوَلَدِي فَضَحِكْتُ وَلَعِبْتُ فَذَكَرْتُ الَّذِي كُنَّا فِيهِ فَخَرَجْتُ فَلَقِيتُ أَبَا بَكْرٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ فَقُلْتُ: نَافَقْتُ، فَقَالَ: أَبُو بَكْرٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ إِنَّا لَنَفْعَلُهُ، فَذَهَبَ حَنْظَلَةُ فَذَكَرَهُ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ: «يَا حَنْظَلَةُ لَوْ كُنْتُمْ كَمَا تَكُونُونَ عِنْدِي لَصَافَحَتْكُمُ الْمَلَائِكَةُ عَلَى فُرُشِكُمْ أَوْ طُرُقِكُمْ أَوْ نَحْوِ ذَا، يَا حَنْظَلَةُ سَاعَةٌ وَسَاعَةٌ» .
Sayyiduna Hanzalah al-Katib al-Usayyidi (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: We were with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and we mentioned Paradise and Hell until it was as if we were seeing them with our own eyes. Then I went to my family and children and began laughing and playing. Then I remembered the state we had been in, so I went out and met Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), and I said: I have become a hypocrite. Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: We do the same. So Hanzalah went and mentioned it to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he ((peace and blessings be upon him)) said: "O Hanzalah! If you always remained in the same state as you are with me, the angels would shake hands with you on your beds or on your roads, or something like that. O Hanzalah! (There is) a time for this and a time for that."
