Mu'jam Kabir Tabarani 3433 — the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Trial

حَدَّثَنَا هَاشِمُ بْنُ مَرْثَدٍ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ عَيَّاشٍ، حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، حَدَّثَنِي ضَمْضَمُ بْنُ زُرْعَةَ، عَنْ شُرَيْحِ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ، عَنْ أَبِي مَالِكٍ الْأَشْعَرِيِّ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «إِنَّ الْفِتْنَةَ تُرْسَلُ، وَيُرْسَلُ مَعَهَا الْهَوَى وَالصَّبْرُ، فَمَنِ اتَّبَعَ الْهَوَى كَانَتْ قِتْلَتُهُ سَوْدَاءَ، وَمَنِ اتَّبَعَ الصَّبْرَ كَانَتْ قِتْلَتُهُ بَيْضَاءَ»
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Malik al-Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Trial (fitnah) is sent, and desire and patience are sent along with it. Whoever follows desire, his death will be black, and whoever follows patience, his death will be white."
