Sayyiduna al-Harith bin Amr al-Sahmi (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) while he (peace and blessings be upon him) was at Mina or Arafat. The Bedouins would come, and when they saw his (peace and blessings be upon him) face they would say: This is a blessed face. The narrator said: I said: O Messenger of Allah! Ask forgiveness for me. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Allah, forgive us." The narrator said: Then I went round and said: O Messenger of Allah! Ask forgiveness for me. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Allah, forgive us." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) wanted to spit, so he took his spittle in his hand and wiped it on his sandal, disliking that it should touch anyone around him (peace and blessings be upon him). Then he said: "O people! What day is this? Indeed, your blood and your wealth are sacred to you with regard to one another, just as this day of yours is sacred, in this month of yours, in this land of yours. O Allah, have I conveyed? Let those present convey this to those who are absent." The narrator said: And he (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded charity, saying: "Give charity, for I do not know; perhaps you will not see me again after this day of mine." And he (peace and blessings be upon him) fixed Yalamlam as the miqat for the people of Yemen, from which they should enter ihram, and Dhat Irq for the people of Iraq — or he said: for the people of the East. And a man asked him (peace and blessings be upon him) about the 'atirah, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever wishes may sacrifice the 'atirah and whoever wishes may not, and whoever wishes may sacrifice the fara' and whoever wishes may not." And he said: "In sheep there is their sacrifice," gesturing with the fingers of his right hand: he placed them on the joint of the middle finger and the index finger and bent its tip slightly.
