حَدَّثَنَا بَكْرُ بْنُ سَهْلٍ الدِّمْيَاطِيُّ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ صَالِحٍ، حَدَّثَنِي اللَّيْثُ، حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَسْلَمَ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ، عَنْ أَبِي وَاقِدٍ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ إِذَا أُوحِيَ إِلَيْهِ أَتَيْنَاهُ يُعَلِّمُنَا مَا أُوحِيَ إِلَيْهِ، فَجِئْتُهُ ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ فَقَالَ: " إِنَّ اللهَ تَعَالَى يَقُولُ: إِنَّا أَنْزَلْنَا الْمَالَ لِإِقَامِ الصَّلَاةِ وَإِيتَاءِ الزَّكَاةِ، وَلَوْ أَنَّ لِابْنِ آدَمَ وَادِيًا لَأَحَبَّ أَنْ يَكُونَ إِلَيْهِ الثَّانِي، وَلَوْ كَانَ لَهُ اثْنَانِ لَأَحَبَّ أَنْ يَكُونَ إِلَيْهِمَا الثَّالِثُ، وَلَا يَمْلَأُ جَوْفَ ابْنِ آدَمَ إِلَّا التُّرَابُ، وَيَتُوبُ اللهُ عَلَى مَنْ تَابَ "
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Waqid al-Laythi (may Allah be pleased with him) that whenever revelation came down to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), we would come to him (peace and blessings be upon him) and he (peace and blessings be upon him) would teach us what had been revealed. One day I came to him (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Allah Almighty says: We sent down wealth for establishing the prayer and giving the zakah. If the son of Adam had a valley (of wealth), he would love to have a second; and if he had two, he would long for a third. Nothing fills the belly of the son of Adam except dust, and Allah accepts the repentance of whoever repents."
